At Otterhampton Primary School, we want our children to be exposed to different religions and cultures around the world as well as wider world views. We follow the Somerset Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education “Awareness, Mystery and Value” using Jigsaw Discovery RE.
Jigsaw RE aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the religious and cultural landscape, including Christianity, other principal religions, and religious traditions. It utilises an enquiry-based approach, starting from children's own experiences and using them as a bridge into investigating different religions and beliefs. It encourages students to reflect on their own beliefs and values, fostering personal reflection and spiritual development. It also emphasises the importance of understanding and respecting different faiths and beliefs, promoting inclusivity and challenging prejudice. It supports the holistic development of students, encompassing their spiritual, moral, social, and cultural education.
Parents/carers can withdraw their children from all or part of the religious education or religious worship. Any parent/carer wishing to take such course of action should inform the headteacher.
